A Prophet Like Unto Me!
Devotion by Wendy Davie
John 12:24
There is a love far beyond our understanding, a love so sacrificial, that one is completely willing to put away their own desires and benefits in order that others may be totally forgiven.
In Exodus 31, 32 we read two things – the giving of the Ten Commandments and the total rebellion of Israel in making and worshipping the golden calf. Our God is so righteous and holy that any sin demands punishment. He tells Moses “Now then let Me alone, that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them...”
Under the Lord’s direction, Moses, stands in the gate and calls, “Who is on the Lord’s side, come unto me.” That day, thousands were killed and a separation was placed between the holy and unholy. Moses returns to the Mount and intercedes for the nation, his prayer is a reflection of the love of Christ for us – “forgive, but if not, blot me out from Your book…”
A prophet like Moses from among Israel was a promise given, (Deut.18:15). Jesus says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”(John12:24). Christ Jesus, the grain of wheat, and only Begotten Son of God, stood in the gate and carried our sins. Although we are an obstinate people, the full wrath of God was poured upon Christ Jesus to bring about our Redemption. In Him we are forgiven and have been born again; as much fruit unto righteousness.
Holy Father, Thank you for Jesus who stood in the gate and took our punishment. Forgive our sins and strengthen us to live in righteousness every day to Your glory. In Jesus holy Name; Amen.
